Certified B Corporations must be dedicated to transparency in pet health and nutrition. It’s much like Fair Trade certification for coffee or USDA Organic certification for milk.

Only Natural Pet food has set themselves apart from the majority of pet foods in the industry by becoming a Certified B Corporation and committing to full-body wellness of dogs and cats with high quality wet and dry food. Factors Influencing the Goodness of Only Natural Pet Food

The following factors influence how good Only Natural Pet food is for dogs and cats.

  • Taste
  • Ingredients
  • Manufacturing

At Dog Ownership Guide, we based our dog food reviews on the above factors. The reasoning behind each factor is:

  • If dogs don’t like the taste, it doesn’t matter how good the ingredients are or how well it was manufactured.
  • The taste doesn’t matter if the ingredients aren’t high quality or healthy because the dog’s health is at stake.
  • The taste nor ingredients matter if the manufacturing has decreased the integrity of them.

About Only Natural Pet Food Ingredients

The ingredient list contains products used in order of predominance with the one used in the greatest amount first. The first ingredient for Canine PowerFood Red Meat Feast is lamb, indicated the food is mostly made of raw meat – lamb.

The second ingredient is lamb meal, which is a meat concentrate and contains 300% more protein than the raw lamb.

Why does the company add a meal concentrate – lamb meal – after already adding in raw lamb? Unfortunately, raw food condenses when cooked because it’s 73% water. Adding meal concentrate increases the amount of dog food produced.

Pork meal is the third ingredient. This is another meat concentrate, which boosts the protein content even more.

In addition to the meats, there’s also legumes in the product, further adding to the protein total:

  • Peas (Pea Protein)
  • Garbanzo Beans
  • Lentils

All are high in protein AND fiber.

The package says it has 35% Crude Protein, which makes sense from all of the raw lamb, lamb meal, pork meal and of course, legumes. There’s also flaxseed that pushes the protein content up just a bit more.

When we look at the nutritional values of the product, we see that it has a good balance of protein, fat and carbs.

  • Crude Protein – 35%
  • Crude Fat – 18%
  • Carbs – 26%

What should dogs have in their diet?

Protein 18-32%
Fat 8-22%
Carbohydrates 46-74%

Exact percentages depend on the activity level of the dog.

The Red Meat dry dog food has the most protein out of all the varieties, making it suitable for highly active, working dogs. Knowing this, you can determine if this variety is best for your dog or if you should try one of the others.
